Library Behaviour Spotlight: Maheshwar's Care for Books Sets an Example
The monsoon season brings much-needed rain, but for library books, it is also one of the most challenging times of the year.
Every year, we receive books that have been damaged by rain. Some become wet because students run through the rain with them, especially during the lunch break, while others are used to shield themselves like an umbrella. Sometimes, books are placed inside school bags along with wet umbrellas, causing pages to wrinkle, covers to peel, and mould to develop. These books can no longer be enjoyed by other readers.
A library book is not just a book—it is a shared resource that belongs to every reader. Every book deserves to be treated with care and respect.
This week, the PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Kanjikode Library is delighted to recognise Maheswar S Nari, Class VI A in our Library Behaviour Spotlight for his exemplary care of library books.
Maheswar carries every library book in a separate protective bag, ensuring that it remains safe from rain, moisture, and accidental damage. This simple yet thoughtful habit reflects his respect for books and his understanding that caring for library resources is everyone's responsibility.
Monsoon Book Care Tips
- Carry library books in a waterproof or separate protective bag.
- Never use a book to shield yourself from the rain.
- Keep books away from wet umbrellas, water bottles, and damp clothes.
- If a book gets slightly wet, dry it naturally in a well-ventilated place—never under direct heat.
- Handle every library book as if it were your own.
- Report any damage to the librarian immediately
We sincerely appreciate Maheswar for setting such a wonderful example of responsible library behaviour. His thoughtful habit inspires us all to become better custodians of the books we borrow.
After all, when we take care of our books, our books take care of our learning.
