    Learn to Code: Free Coding Platforms

    Coding is a process used to write instructions for what a computer, application, or software program, does and how it does it. Coding is the way by which programmers communicate with the computers. 

    Coding for kids will help to acquire 21st century skills.

    Here are some of the free platforms to help you to lean coding.

    Lightbot, , developed by Danny Yaroslavski, is an educational video game for learning software programming concepts designed for first time coders. It is a puzzle game based on coding. 


    Blockly is a block coding language, designed as a free and open-source JavaScript library by Google. Blockly Games is a series of educational games that teach programming. It is designed for children who have not had prior experience with computer programming. By the end of these games, players are ready to use conventional text-based languages.


    Code.org is a free platform to learn coding. It has many interactive tutorials to help kids learn coding quickly in a fun and interactive way.  Uses Blockly Programming language.

    Scratch is a high-level block-based visual programming language and website aimed primarily at children as an educational tool for programming.



    Grasshopper is the best way to learn to code for beginners. With fun, quick lessons on your phone or desktop, Grasshopper teaches adult learners to write real JavaScript. It’s currently available free of charge on Desktop, Android, and iOS. Grasshopper is a Code with Google program.



    MIT App Inventor is an intuitive, visual programming environment that allows everyone – even children – to build fully functional apps for Android phones, iPhones, and Android/iOS tablets



    Thunkable is a no code mobile app development platform. The free plan allows you to create upto 10 projects with 200 mb storage.

    Kodular

    Kodular, a free platform to let your ideas become Android apps. Kodular was baked from MIT App Inventor to make app coding easier.

    Code Monster, Code Maven, and Game Maven are interactive tutorials where kids and adults can play with code, experiment, build, and learn.

    Alice is a free application from Carnegie Mellon University. Alice is an innovative block-based programming environment that makes it easy to create animations, build interactive narratives, or program simple games in 3D. Unlike many of the puzzle-based coding applications Alice motivates learning through creative exploration. Alice is designed to teach logical and computational thinking skills, fundamental principles of programming and to be a first exposure to object-oriented programming. T

    Code Club

    A global community of volunteers, educators, and partners helping schools to run free coding clubs where 9- to 13-year-olds can learn to build and share their ideas. Code Club offer free step-by-step projects and resources to help you run your club



    Flutter is an open-source UI software development kit created by Google. It is used to develop cross platform applications for Android, iOS, Linux, macOS, Windows, Google Fuchsia, and the web from a single codebase.

    Beetle Blocks is a graphical blocks-based programming environment for 3D design and fabrication. Based on Scratch and Snap, it's a fun and creative way of learning computing principles while designing 3D objects.

    Hiberworld is a free gaming platform to play and create games

    Kodu Game Lab is a 3D game development environment that is designed to teach kids basic programming principles. Kodu lets kids create games on the PC via a simple visual programming language. Kodu can be used to teach creativity, problem solving, storytelling, as well as programming. Anyone can use Kodu to make a game, young children as well as adults with no design or programming skills.
