Author Interaction with Philippa Leathley | NLF Reading Challenge 2026

 Young readers have an exciting opportunity to meet acclaimed children's author Philippa Leathley as part of the New Literature Festival (NLF) Reading Challenge 2026. The virtual author interaction is scheduled for Thursday, 6 August 2026, from 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM (IST).

During the session, Philippa Leathley will introduce readers to the magical world of her debut novel, Inkbound: Meticulous Jones and the Skull Tattoo, sharing the inspiration behind the story, her writing journey, and the creative process that brings fantasy adventures to life. Participants will also have the chance to gain insights into the characters, themes, and imaginative world featured in the book.

About the Book

Inkbound: Meticulous Jones and the Skull Tattoo follows the extraordinary journey of Meticulous "Metty" Jones, who, on her tenth birthday, receives a magical tattoo that unexpectedly takes the shape of a skull instead of the adventurous symbol she had hoped for. As mysterious events unfold, Metty is drawn into a world filled with magic, hidden secrets, enchanted cities, and dangerous organizations. The novel combines mystery, adventure, humour, and fantasy in a captivating story for young readers.

About the Author

Philippa Leathley grew up in East Yorkshire, where she developed a passion for storytelling from an early age. Inspired by history, shipwrecks, fashion, and the natural world, she has created imaginative stories that captivate young audiences. She currently lives near Hull with her family and three rescue cats.

Her debut novel, Inkbound: Meticulous Jones and the Skull Tattoo, was longlisted for the 2026 Branford Boase Award. She is also working on her next children's series, The Starsea Mysteries, which is scheduled for publication in 2028 after the completion of the Inkbound trilogy.
